Wooden doors are commonly used for exterior entrances on residential properties. There is a variety of different locks that can be fitted to wooden doors, usually these are mortice locks, rim locks or nightlatches. We have listed the most common wooden door locks below.

Types of locks on wooden doors

Euro Profile Sashlock

This lock uses a euro profile cylinder. The difference between a sashlock
and a mortice lock is that it incorporates both a deadbolt plus a handle-operated latch.

Mortice Deadlock / Sashlock

Mortice lock’s are generally used in front or entrance doors to homes and can be used in conjunction with a nightlatch. Home Insurance companies usually require one your external locks have either 5 levers or be British Standard 3621.

 

Mortice Latch

This type of latch is normally found on internal doors.

Rim Lock

A rim lock is surface mounted and primarily found on older properties. It can be a sashlock or a dead lock.

Rim Night Latch

These are normally on the exterior doors of properties.
